Professional chamber orchestra has a powerful arsenal of expressive means and a broad repertoire, big creative potential and prominent personality.
During its years the orchestra has repeatedly transformed by opening new ways of creative interaction but it has always been at the forefront of Nizhny Novgorod concert life. Milestones of its history are marked by the names of prominent musical personalities who have had a significant impact on its present look.
Founded in 1990 and based on existing since 1981 chamber orchestra of Niznhy Novgorod state conservatoire named after M. Glinka, the collective existed during many years thanks to the support of progressive intellectuals of the city and the enthusiasm of the participants themselves. In 1994 the city granted it status of municipal cultural institution.
Professional career of the collective connected to the name of honoured artist of Russia, professor Sofiya Propischan who had been leading the orchestra since 1990 and until 2003 (during this period it had a title - ensemble of soloists "Sofiya"). During her leadership the orchestra became popular in Nizhny Novgorod and was known far beyond Volga region city. Since the end of 1990-s, the orchestra tours actively and performs with its own projects, regularly participates in the largest festivals and forums of Nizhny Novgorod.
Countdown of the orchestra modern history is associated with the actual reorganization and the change of its artistic director. Since 2003 its leader is the soloist of the orchestra Vladimir Plaksin, the student of Semyon Yaroshevich who is the founder of chamber orchestra of conservatoire. Dmitry Stoyanov was invited as the concertmaster. A huge role in rethinking of orchestral and performing tasks played a close collaboration with a legendary musician Igor Zhukov. Critics have noted "qualitatively new" sound of the orchestra. An important place in the "soloists" creativity for the past few years is taken by the idea of historically adequate interpretation of baroque and classical music which was embodied in a series of projects "Historical performance practice" under the direction of Maestro Christoph Meier.
The orchestra also performed in International projects of new millennium with conductors Hermann Dechant (Austria, 2005), Mats Liljefors (Sweden, 2006), Tae Cheol Noh (South Korea). The orchestra constantly improves itself in classical style and at the same time playing a lot of contemporary music, performs premieres of its contemporaries. The leading European soloists collaborate willingly with the orchestra.
The orchestra musicians are graduates, post-graduates and lecturers of Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatoire, laureates of International competitions and popular soloists, they also perform as invited musicians with other collectives.
